30 self-reflection questions to ask yourself every night
If you keep restarting the same goal — the gym, a side business, studying, a career move — the problem usually isn't motivation. It's a pattern you haven't seen yet. These daily reflection questions are built to surface it. Don't answer all thirty. Pick three tonight, write honestly, and notice which answers keep coming back.
How today actually went
Start with what happened, not what should have happened.
- What one word describes how I feel right now?
- What took more energy today than it should have?
- When did I feel most like myself today?
- What did I avoid today, and what was I protecting myself from?
- What am I proud of that nobody saw?
- What drained me — a person, a task, or a thought?
Why you keep restarting
For the goal you've started more than twice.
- What's the exact moment I usually stop — day 3, week 2, the first bad day?
- What reason do I give myself every time I quit?
- Is that reason true, or just the easiest one to say out loud?
- Am I confusing being busy with moving forward?
- What would I have to admit if I kept going?
- What changed the last time this actually worked?
What's underneath
The first answer is rarely the real one. Ask again.
- What's actually stressing me — the thing itself, or what it says about me?
- Whose opinion am I most worried about right now?
- What am I pretending not to know?
- What keeps showing up in my head when it's quiet?
- If a friend told me today's story, what would I tell them?
- What am I waiting for permission to do?
Money, work and direction
For when the big picture is the thing keeping you up.
- Am I moving toward something or just away from something?
- What would a good version of next month look like, concretely?
- What's one decision I keep postponing?
- What am I spending time on that I'd never choose again?
- What skill would change the most if I got 10% better at it?
- Where do I feel behind — and behind whom?
One move for tomorrow
Reflection only matters if it changes tomorrow a little.
- What's one thing under 15 minutes that would make tomorrow feel more under control?
- What's the first task I'll do, before I check my phone?
- What will I say no to tomorrow?
- What would make tomorrow a 'yes, I did it' day?
- Who could I tell about this, so I actually follow through?
- What's one line from today I want to remember?
How to make daily reflection stick
- Keep it short: five minutes at the same time each night beats an hour once a month.
- Write the messy version. The sentence you'd delete is usually the useful one.
- Re-read last week. Patterns only show up when you compare days.
- End with one small action for tomorrow, not a new life plan.
Let Mirror read the pattern for you
Mirror is a four-minute nightly check-in. Tell it what's actually going on, and it reads your words against your past days, names the pattern, and gives you one move for tomorrow.
